A root canal treatment is used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or becomes infected or when an injury or a large cavity damages the tooth’s nerve. During a root canal procedure, the nerve is removed and the inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and an abscess may form. Very often a crown is needed to provide enough support for a root canal treated tooth.
